As your child puts various flows into motion, demonstrate basic STEM principles through the power of water to create movement and speed, concepts like empty and full, kinetic energy, hydropower, and even measurement using the marks on the test tube.

The lab creates different and surprising water effects. Allow the fun of discovery and variation to encourage more curiosity and further your child’s desire to explore and learn, and to strengthen the connection between play and learning time.

Fine Motor Skills

Senses

The various sensations of the different spraying effects create a multi-sensory experience. Ask your child, “What sound is the water making now?” Or have them feel the differences between the varied flows.

Coordination

Hanging the elephant on the hook requires both hands and teaches limb movement coordination. Aiming the stream in a particular direction or at other objects improves hand-eye coordination.

Communication

Share nursery rhymes like “Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?” Ask your child what other plants they want to grow in their garden. Make up a story about the worm and bumble bee characters with your child .

Cooperation & Sharing

Pouring water from the watering can and setting off the flower’s chain reaction is a perfect opportunity to model sharing a toy and taking turns – either with you or with a sibling or friend. “First it’s my turn to water the flower. Now it’s your turn.”
